The U.S. must increase the role of the military on the Mexico border. Governor Rick Perry of Texas is taking the problem to the people after President Obama made a speech to his base, in which he mocked the cries for help from the border states. The Texas Governor has allowed the media to see the border dangers for themselves. For many who live on the border and see the problem up close and personal, his mockery was heart wrenching. As ranchers live in fear, and several have been murdered on their own property, the president jokes about the situation saying that the people who live near the border are going to ask for a moat with alligators. It was good for a laugh among his progressive base, the problem is that the president is responsible for border safety for all of the American people, not his chosen few. The facts speak for themselves, yet the mainstream media ignores the plight of the border residents. If the president laughs, they laugh with him. The problem with this is that national security is weakened by his policies. According to Governor Perry, there is much more to this issue than simply impoverished people crossing over the border illegally in order to have a better life in the U.S. The drug cartels responsible for thousands of murders, including beheading their opposition and killing children, have teamed up with terrorists. They are bringing people across the border from countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya and several others. These people are not coming across the border with heavily armed guards to get a job in a strawberry field, or go to a pep rally. The Texas Governor has told Congress and the President about what is going on and it is no laughing matter. The drug gangs are setting up in several major cities across the southern border states, bringing violence with them. They have snipers on hilltops, not just on the Mexican side of the border, but deep within the United States. This information is well-known to the administration. What many lawmakers who have studied the facts say, is that the border states need more boots on the ground. The military would be able to root out the cartels’ spotters and put a stop to terrorists and drugs coming over the border. Right now the light is green for anyone to cross, no matter if they are looking to do the American citizens harm or not. The fences have holes in them, the administration has chosen to put up signs miles from the border, informing the American citizens that it is not safe to be in the area. The military must be sent to the border in much larger numbers to actually patrol with a bold presence. This will send a clear message that the government is finally ready to stop the joking at the expense of it’s citizens and do the job of protecting the people as they are required to protect.
